The Test of Academic Proficiency consists of questions in reading comprehension, language arts (grammar and writing), and mathematics and a constructed-response writing assignment. The test is required for admission to professional studies and registration to certain classes.
You may take these tests up to ten years prior to the issuance of the certificate, but you will only be allowed five attempts to pass a given certification test. The state will allow you to bank subtest scores that you pass beginning September 2010. In other words, if you pass some sections but not others, you may “bank” the passes in those sections and not retake them.
The Basic Skills Test (300) is no longer being offered by the Illinois Certification Testing System. It is now replaced by the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP). Test number 400.
The TAP is offered only in the Computer-Based Testing format. Beginning in February 2012, computer-based tests were made available year-round by appointment, Monday through Saturday (excluding holidays).
Students need to register as early as possible before they wish to take this test as seating is limitate at select testing locations. Students can find the links to information about testing centers and seat availability on the following Web site:

Usually the computer-based tests will have scores reported within four weeks of the test date. Initial score reports for the TAP will be delayed due to the setting of passing scores. We have been told that we should probably get the first of these scores sometime in June, 2012.
