Gateway 1 Teacher Education Requirements

Criminal History Records: Clear Sexual Offender Registry

All teacher education candidates are required to submit to a complete criminal history records check as defined in Section 10-21.9 of the Illinois School Code. One part of that requirement is that a teacher (candidate) is not to appear on the Illinois Sexual Offender Registry.

When a teacher education candidate submits their Assessment of Legal and Ethical Conduct form to the Cecilia J. Lauby Teacher Education Center, a staff member will check this database for Gateway 1. If the candidate's name does not appear in this database, the candidate's record will be updated to show he/she has met this requirement.

If the candidate's name does appear on this list, the record will be marked as not having met this requirement. The candidate will be contacted, and it will be his or her responsibility to prove that they are not the person that appears on this database.
