Request a copy of your criminal background check

Submit your request for a copy of your criminal background check.
Please wait to request a copy of your CBC until after you have received an email from the Teacher Education Center stating that your results were received.

If you have not received an email within 2 weeks after your background check, please for assistance. Failure to notify the Teacher Education Center in a timely manner may result in having to pay for an additional criminal background check to be conducted.

 

Teacher Education Requirements

Fingerprint Criminal Background Checks

You must have a completed FBI/Illinois State Police fingerprint criminal background check (CBC) with results on file in the Lauby Teacher Education Center before you begin any pre-student teaching field/clinical experience. This is a Gateway I: Admission to Professional Studies requirement.

Criminal Background Check Clinics

Walk-in criminal background check clinics will be held on the following days from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. No appointment is needed.

Unless otherwise indicated, clinics will be held in the Faculty/Staff Conference Room at the Bone Student Center.

 

You will need to bring with you:

• A completed Illinois State University Criminal background check request form (pdf).
• $52 fee; $54 if using credit or debit card (Cash, money order, Visa or MasterCard will be accepted.)

FBI-only Second Request

Some school districts may request you to complete an additional FBI-only criminal background check prior to placement in their school district. When your first fingerprint-based criminal background check was captured they were sent to the Illinois State Police (ISP) and the FBI. The results are returned to Illinois State if you used one of our forms. The Illinois State Police archives the fingerprint submission and provides a "rap back" service in that an updated ISP response is automatically sent to Illinois State University if there has been a subsequent conviction since the initial report. Unfortunately, the FBI does not currently provide the same type of "rap back" service and future arrests and convictions are not reported.

You may be required to update the FBI report for student teaching or other clinicals since the FBI does not have a "rap back" feature. You will be notified if a school is requiring this for them. If you had your initial fingerprinting completed by Accurate Biometrics, you may wish to request the resubmission of your fingerprints to the ISP for processing through to the FBI. You will not need to be re-fingerprinted.

The following process needs to be followed:

• The student completes the FBI-only Resubmission Authorization Form (pdf) and does not have to report in person to be re-fingerprinted.
• Payment methods:
  • If paying by credit card, you will complete payment information section on the form and submit form to Accurate Biometrics via fax at (773) 685-5433.
  • If paying by money order, you will need to mail the completed form and money order to Accurate Biometrics at 4849 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60630, Attention: Resubmission Process
• Accurate Biometrics will process resubmission requests within 24 hours of receipt.
• Usually, results of the fingerprint search will be returned to the school within 72 hours of submission to the FBI.

Other Criminal Background Check Opportunities

• Students may wish to have their fingerprint criminal background check done by Accurate Biometrics at one of their locations. Visit the schedule on the Accurate Biometrics Web site to see when and where they will be conducting other criminal background check clinics. It is important for Illinois State University students to take the criminal background check form (pdf). Results will automatically be sent to Illinois State University.
• Bushue Background Screening will be doing criminal background checks every Thurs. at the Regional Office of Education #17 at 905 N. Main Street, Suite 1, in Normal. Please call for an appointment at (217) 342-3042 or (877) 342-3042. If you have a criminal background check done by Bushue, you must use the Bushue Criminal Background Check form for Illinois State University students (pdf).
