University High School Observation Request Form (pdf)

Consequences of inappropriate behavior when observing in schools

As a future teacher, we expect that you will behave professionally during your observations.

If for some reason you behave inappropriately, the classroom teacher will document it. In addition, if you arrive at your observation site dressed inappropriately, you will be sent home.

The school will notify the Lauby Center of your inappropriate behavior or dress, and you will not receive credit for the observation hour(s). Repeat offenders will not be allowed to observe in that school again.

Clinical Experiences for Special Education Majors

Clinical Experiences for Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1)

All of the following clinical experiences must be preceded by required coursework and accompanied with a valid TB test and criminal background check.

Practicum

You will begin your first supervised clinical experience during SED 245.12: Field Work in Special Education: Alternative Curriculum. You will be assigned a practicum placement within a one hour commute of campus for one semester. You will be in your classroom two days per week and will teach based on your cooperating teacher's plans.

Field Based Experience

Following your practicum semester, you will participate in a Field Based placement in either Peoria (District 150), Macon-Piatt Coop (Decatur and rural areas), McLean County (Bloomington/Normal) or Chicago (suburbs or Chicago Public Schools). These geographical locations are assigned to you by the Special Education Department approximately one year in advance. You will have two nine-week placements in any of the field based locations, except Chicago which has one placement for the entire semester. Learn more about field based experiences.
