University High School Observation Request Form (pdf)

Consequences of inappropriate behavior when observing in schools

As a future teacher, we expect that you will behave professionally during your observations.

If for some reason you behave inappropriately, the classroom teacher will document it. In addition, if you arrive at your observation site dressed inappropriately, you will be sent home.

The school will notify the Lauby Center of your inappropriate behavior or dress, and you will not receive credit for the observation hour(s). Repeat offenders will not be allowed to observe in that school again.

Clinical Experiences for Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) Majors

Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle Level Education majors enrolled in certain C&I courses will participate in learning experiences that are clinical in nature. You will have opportunities to link theory with practice as clinical experiences occur in a variety of educational settings such as public schools, University Laboratory Schools, agencies, and other approved non-school settings.

You must provide your own transportation to the clinical experience sites. Additionally, you will need to show verification of completing each pre-student teaching clinical experience commensurate with attaining local, state, and national standards.

The number of clinical hours and type of expected clinical activity (i.e. observation, one-on-one tutoring, non-instructional assistance, small-group instruction, whole-class teaching, micro teaching, professional meetings, etc.) associated with each course can be found with the appropriate course description in the Undergraduate Catalog, as well as in the course syllabus provided by the instructor.

For most courses, program coordinators and course instructors determine where, when, and how the clinical requirements will be met. The Lauby Teacher Education Center will coordinate placements for certain major clinical experiences in C&I. Clinical placement information is communicated to the teacher candidate through the course instructor, the program coordinator, and/or the Lauby Teacher Education Center.
